Twist: Yoga Poems (McElderry Books, 2007) by Janet S. Wong and illustrated
by Julie Paschkis is a wonderful union of words and pictures. Wong’s
minimalist poems capture the mood of various yoga poses; “A bridge
is as good as its legs/ the pilings, the pillars that shoulder the
weight/ stretched tight in the middle/ floating” she writes in
Bridge. Paschkis has clearly been inspired by the tradition and craft
of Mughal miniatures. Each spread is more delightful than the last.
Yogis and yoginis of all ages will love this stunning picture book.
